TOP TIPS FOR YOUR COLOUR PALATE!
The Sleeping Flower Company take great care putting together our flower colour combinations, however, is it essential to have a colour scheme for your wedding day? The answer to this question is no, however, having a colour scheme will make it much easier to put together a beautiful look for your celebration. Once you've chosen your colours, you'll be clearer about which ideas will work for you, and you'll be able to create a cohesive look for your big day. There is one important thing to keep in mind: don’t pick a colour palette just because it’s trendy or in vogue. Aquamarine might be Bride’s Magazine’s colour of the year, but if you hate the colour, you’ll just be miserable with it! Go with colours that you enjoy and love!
The next challenge is how to choose. There are so many wonderful colours and such a huge variety of colour combinations that its mind boggling! We all need help when it comes to choosing, so here are some top tips to help!
THE IMPORTANCE OF COLOUR
There’s one thing for certain. The colours that you chose for your wedding day will be with you forever! Every time you look at your wedding photos, your colours will be there staring back at you in almost every photo – so make sure that you pick colours that you enjoy! Given that, there may be some things that you might like to consider – particularly if you are a designer or perfectionist by heart!
USE YOUR VENUE AS INSPIRATION
Does your venue have any colours or architectural styles that feed your imagination and that might influence your choice of colour? For example, a Greek Taverna wedding with terracotta tiles or brickwork might be begging for a warm palette of burnt orange and cranberry rather than pale pastels, whereas a historic castle with an elegant, white interior might be more suited to monochrome or muted, softer shades than powerful, bold colours. If you have your heart set on a particular colour scheme, take it with you when you attend your venue visits and consider how it would look in the venue: for example, do their carpets, drapery, wall colourings etc. fit with your scheme? You might have to modify your choices and make some changes - however, if you really don’t care – that’s fine too! It’s your day and should be done your way! Everyone is different.
CHOOSING A WEDDING CONCEPT
For some wedding themes, the colours will choose themselves! For example, a Christmas wedding would look gorgeous in shades of deep green and ivory with hints of crimson. Certain colours also evoke moods and feelings that you might want associated with your wedding day. For example, if you want a soft, romantic feel, blush and deep pinks and rose golds will do that for you that. Joyous and vibrant? Jewel tones will elevate the mood! Fun and cheerful? Choose yellows with orange hints. Peaceful and relaxed? Pick paler blues and greens! Want a sense of luxury and power? Choose deep purple hues with sapphire blue tones. It’s wise to aim for a combination of 3-5 colours that coordinate well with each other and even if you want a very colourful wedding, focus on a few select hues to make your decision-making easier.
SEASON INSPIRED COLOURS
Spring, summer, autumn and winter have their own stunning colour palettes reflected in nature that could make picking your colours a less difficult task. Imagine a winter wedding with deep crimsons or dark green velvet bridesmaids’ dresses, or a spring wedding with meadow flower colours and vibrant green tones. Use the season to help you decide.
SET YOUR MOOD WITH COLOUR
What’s your wedding vibe going to be? Consider how colours will enhance the feeling or mood that you want at your wedding. For example, a more neutral colour palette will produce a light, bright, and breezy feel. If you want to let your guests know they can let their hair down perhaps bright, crazy colours will evoke a bold and quirky vibe that’s perfect for celebrating. You can add some drama to the mix by choosing dark shades, like forest green, burgundy or even black.
